DETTAGLI WORKSHOP
Unlocking Libraries Potential: Initiatives, Methods and Tools to Monitor Open Science
Organised by LIBER Open Access working group
Date: Wednesday 2 July 2025
Speakers: Sofie Wennström, Stockholm University, Sweden; Ivana Matijević, National and University Library in Zagreb (NSK), Croatia; Andrea Solieri, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy; Alicia Fátima Gómez, IE University, Spain
Description: This workshop focuses on libraries’ vital contribution to monitoring and assessing open research and developing open infrastructures, which aligns with the objectives of the Barcelona Declaration. Participants will explore how librarians’ expertise can influence decision-making processes and enhance the availability of reliable metrics for evaluating progress in the open science landscape.
During the workshop, we will first explore and exemplify efforts needed to support the monitoring and assessment of research based on data from open infrastructures. Then, we will invite participants to share their experiences and discuss what could be improved about their current practices. We will also provide reliable metrics to evaluate the move towards a more open science landscape. We will discuss how and what kind of data should be collected by what tools, how it is organised, and how it can be understood and analysed to inform political decisions in higher education.
The workshop aims to identify opportunities to improve library services and strengthen support for a more transparent and accessible research environment. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of contributing to open research by monitoring and assessing initiatives to maximise their impact in promoting open science.
